Peter Jöback takes The Phantom of the Opera to Cirkus in Stockholm

Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s epic musical is coming back to Stockholm. This time with Sweden’s biggest musical star Peter Jöback as The Phantom, a role that he has been praised for both on Broadway and in London’s West End. The premiere at Cirkus will be in September 2016, which will celebrate the 30-year mark since the original opening in London.

In the autumn of 2016 Peter Jöback will once again put on the famous masque and enter the stage as The Phantom. He’s bringing the original production of West End and Broadway to Cirkus in Stockholm. Peter Jöback has been praised as The Phantom, both in London in 2012 and in New York in 2013, and he is one of only four actors who ever played the title role on both sides of the Atlantic.

"It feels really special to take this classic musical back to Sweden again after my amazing journey with Phantom on Broadway and West End" says Peter Jöback.

After his success with Phantom in London, Peter did his Broadway debut in April 2013 at The Majestic Theatre in New York. He then became the first European to assume the role since the original line-up in 1988. Jöback also got to perform the title song at the prestigious Tony Awards in June 2013 by invitation from Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and Sir Cameron Macintosh to celebrate The Phantom's 25 years on Broadway.

Auditions to find Christine, the female lead, Raul and the rest of the cast will be held in Stockholm in May in front of the international creative team. A total of 38 roles is waiting to be cast, several of which require trained operatic voices and dancers who also master ballet.

Tickets will be released in the autumn 2015th.

The Phantom of the Opera is one of the world's most famous musicals with music by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Charles Hart and libretto by Richard Stilgoe and Webber, based on the novel with the same name by Gaston Leroux.

The first show premiered at Her Majesty's Theatre in London's West End October 9, 1986 with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman in the leading roles, directed by the legendary Hal Prince.

The latest Swedish production of Phantom in Stockholm was played at the Oscar Theatre 1989-1995 and became one of the biggest theatrical successes ever.
